The day the ice melted...

The world was cold and icy on the day a perfectly warm little boy made his entrance. In retrospect, it was no accident that he chose that day to make his grand appearance.  He had bright eyes and a wise soul. And on that day everything changed. Not just for me, but for the world. You see, because of this sweet boy, nothing would ever be the same again.

On that day, I started to see the world differently. Things that were once so clear to me became blurry. But through his eyes everything was crystal clear. And, day by day, he taught me things. Things I never realized I needed to know.

He taught me how to love things I didn’t understand. He taught me that his way of seeing things was different. And he taught me that his perfectly different way of understanding things would create nothing short of a tidal wave as he made his way out into the world.

You see, he wasn’t like all of the other little boys. He had a keen sense of who he was and who he was didn’t always make sense to the world around him. He was like a glacier. The parts of him that were visible to the world were only a tiny part of who he was. The beautiful story this little boy had to tell was just below the surface. And for those that chose to understand the story, there was much to be learned.

His story was about a boy who could climb mountains. Not necessarily because he wanted to, but because the world put mountains in his way. So he learned how to climb.

Most normal people couldn’t keep up with his climbing abilities. He took risks and refused to carry maps. And because of this, the majority would tell him that the path he was taking wouldn’t get him to the top. They would tell him there was a better way and that his way would take too long or be too difficult. Sometimes they would tell him there was no way he would make it at all. And because of this, many times he would climb those mountains alone, determined to get to the top relying only on his own natural instincts.

Instincts that were perfectly different.

One day, during one of his climbs, he became very tired. The mountain in front of him was taller than any he’d climbed before and the top was covered with ice. Without the proper gear and in the brutal cold he headed out to conquer the hill. He felt alone and wondered if his instincts would be enough this time. But he stayed focused and kept going. And eventually he made it to the top.

As he reached the frozen peak, he shouted at the top of his lungs to the world below, “I DID IT!!” And it echoed for miles for everyone to hear.

In that moment, the ice under his feet melted and this perfectly warm little boy knew he could do anything.

And now, finally, the world knew it too.
