What is Say Something Big?
Two words took my breathe away - “breast cancer.”
In April 2004 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was 33, single, no family history, and a marathon runner. The doctors didn’t feel my lump, but I did. I wasn’t doing a self-breast exam. I was just “feeling my boobies.” Hearing those words, “breast cancer”, took my breathe away.
I wondered if I would ever get married, or have kids, and most of all I wondered if I would live. Everything felt out of control.
But then I got the courage to say three words that changed my life forever - “feel your boobies.”
But then something unexpected happened. I made a simple t-shirt that said “feel your boobies®.” Just for fun…to remind my friends to do something that saved my life. And to make them laugh. And that t-shirt went viral.
That simple t-shirt and those three simple words, “feel your boobies®,” changed my life forever. And as hundreds of t-shirts made their way out into the world, a movement was beginning.
That simple reminder has saved lives.
From that simple t-shirt, the Feel Your Boobies® Foundation was born. With a simple mission - spread this simple reminder to as many young women as we can. And soon we were receiving testimonials from women who found their lump because of our campaign. We were saving lives.
One voice matters. We all have the ability to Say Something Big.
You see, to “Say Something Big” you don’t have to say something profound. You just need to find passion and purpose and have a fierce desire to change something.
Feel Your Boobies®, that simple slogan, is how I “Say Something Big.” I believe that one voice matters and that we can all “Say Something Big.”
What do you have to say?
